Subject: [MDBirding] Broadwings - DC

Hi Everyone,

I spent the morning at Fort DuPont and thought I'd swing by rock creek Park in DC late this afternoon. I couldn't relocate any of the yellow-billed Cuckoos seen earlier, but was treated to 1000 - 2000 CHIMNEY SWIFTS soaring really high (100s of feet if not higher) with 2 kettles of BROAD-WINGED HAWKS. The Hawks all had the same body shape -chunky, broad, pointy wings and the tail pattern (black & white banding) was visible on some of the lower individuals. Others that didn't show their tail banding seemed to just have dark tails.

As I left, a couple of BARRED OWLS sang a duet.

Good Birding!
