Subject: [MDBirding] Buff-breasted Sandpipers in Anne Arundel Co

About 2 days ago, Dan Haas found a couple of Buffies at the Central Sod farm on Swamp Circle Rd near Muddy Creek Rd. After seeing the Sabine's Gull & Baird's Sandpiper at Tridelphia, I decided to try my luck with the Buffies since they are close to home. There are not many good places to park on these narrow country roads. I eventually found a relatively safe place to pull off the road without worrying about getting my Miata stuck. I found a flock of about 15 Killdeer. Found about 5 Horned Larks. Found 3 peeps that were probably Least Sandpipers as they were even smaller than the larks. Eventually found 3 Buffies. How did I find them - yup, look for the dirt clods that are moving. Seriously, they were the same color as the muddy ground.

Subject: [MDBirding] GW Heron/ Harvester

Went to Big pool again yesterday for Odonates and had the very tame Great White Heron at the beaver pond There were two Yellow-billed cuckoos singing and a Wood Duck at the pond. We were really excited to find a Harvester butterfly by the river. Odonates were abundant once the sun came out. I get a number of questions through this list about my camera. (point and shoot Nikon P510) I tried a close up video of a Black-shouldered Spinylegs eating a damsel and am surprised how well it turned out. On my flickr site (it's short) if anyone is interested.
