This morning I texted Ron Gutberlet to inquire about his recent Wicomico Peregrine Falcon sighting. I had business in Snow Hill and thought a quick detour was in order. No luck with that particular falcon, but...
As I was about to get to the Rt 50 bridge over Kent Narrows, I look to my left and cringe as a Peregrine Falcon was riding the 'motor vehicle thermals' created by the West-bound traffic.
I turned my head to follow the bird, and watched as it caught enough elevation in a nick of time, to avoid the oncoming truck traffic.
Why do birds tempt fate like that? There was a Red-tailed Hawk on Eastbound 50 yesterday, just prior to the Severn River Bridge, who was not so lucky.
In warbler news, Bill Hubick (www.marylandbiodiversity.com) and I enjoyed a bright WILSON'S WARBLER at Fort Smallwood late this afternoon, foraging in a willow next to the lake and near the park building / hot dog stand. Mmm.
Good Birding,
