I saw an oven bird fall to the ground at 7:30 this morning after it had crashed into the building on Pratt Street between Gay and Market Streets. I was at work with no supplies to tag and bag it but as I examined it a Wood Thrush smashed directly overhead and landed at my feet and unfortunately I watched it kick out the last few moments of life.
Those of us who have volunteered for Lights Out Baltimore should reply to Lindsay's plea. She has offered to do the hard organizing work and all we have to do is get up early in the morning and hike downtown with a friend and do our volunteering duties. It is also a new opportunity for people who are looking for a way to make the environment better for birds and ultimately all of us.
Earth is a bundle of symbioses. What is bad for any of us fauna is bad for the rest of us.
