After Tuesday's spectacular flight, today was on the slow side. A cloudless sky made it difficult to spot high flying Broadwings, and there were fewer eyes on hand to assist. The morning flight was enjoyable, with the largest group numbering 78 BWs at 10:15 AM. Very few birds were seen after 12:00 noon.

It should be noted that Tuesday's flight of 3,439 Broad-winged Hawks was among the highest (if not THE highest) of all the watch-sites reporting on the east coast. Those observers who spent hours scanning the sky and revealing the spectacle include Joe Stag, Mark Scarf, Brad Cernohorsky, Harry Fink and Mark Miller, among others.

It should also be noted that watch-sites north of us in the New England states are getting large numbers of BW's now and we here in Maryland will be on the look-out for our high flying friends over the next week or so!!! Go to hawkcount.org for daily updates.

Also noteworthy were the huge numbers of Monarch Butterflies seen migrating today- Bob Rineer counted 428 in one hour!
