This evening at St. James Church in Lothian, Maryland, we did a few minutes of opportunistic birding. There was a nice large flock of sparrows. That flock was primarily chipping sparrows, but Jon also found a nice white-throated sparrow. He got an excellent look at it, close at hand, in good light. I was able to confirm, although the flock was more distant and the light a bit dimmer by the time I go there.
