Subject: [MDBirding] MD and DC eBird News

Hi Everyone,

Since MD and DC have so many active eBirders, MD and DC Birding seems like
the perfect forum for sharing eBird developments, tips, and other news. We
plan to begin sending periodic posts about eBird that we hope everyone will
find useful. If you dont use eBird, maybe these notes will get you
interested... or, of course, we all know how to use the delete button. :)

In case you are interested, but haven't tried it yet, eBird answers the
question "Why should I eBird?" at the following link:

The purpose of our present note is to summarize information about the MD
and DC eBird Teams. Future notes will address inserting photographs into
checklists, effective use of the BirdLog app, the eBird review process,
documenting birds, and identification/documentation challenges.

The MD and DC eBird Teams consist of volunteers who work together to
maximize the quality of eBird data for our region and alsowe hopeto help
make eBird participation a positive experience. Roles of eBird team members
include review of interesting bird records, development and improvement of
the rare bird filters, outreach to new and prospective users, and sharing
information about bird identification. The members of the MD eBird Team are:

Tyler Bell
Ron Gutberlet
Matt Hafner
Bill Hubick
Mikey Lutmerding
Rob Ostrowski
Jim Stasz

And our email addresses are:

Paul Pisano is the DC eBird Team, but he also consults with other
experienced DC birders. Paul's email address is:

But really eBird is a cooperative project among all contributors. The
filters will not catch every unusual record. And even though we reviewers
work hard to inspect current and historical reports, we will not find
everything. So if you ever notice an eBird record that seems problematic,
please pass that information along to any of us listed above. We will do
our best to address your input promptly.

We should also introduce the eBird Hotspot reviewers for our region: Mike
Bowen (MD and DC) and Mike Ostrowski (MD). Their email addresses are:

<dhmbowen...><https://webmail.salisbury.edu/owa/redir.aspx?C=dbd74cfa94064629acad5ff2af5e94be&URL=mailto%<3adhmbowen...>
; <birdmath...><https://webmail.salisbury.edu/owa/?ae=Item&t=IPM.Note&a=New&to=<birdmath...>&nm=Michael+Ostrowski>

Finally, we hope that everyone will feel welcome to contact us with any
eBird questions or problemswe will do our best to answer or to put you in
touch with someone who can.

Many thanks to all eBird contributors! We all can feel fortunate to be part
of a project that is educational, benefits birds and science, and is so
much fun. Happy Birding!

The MD and DC eBird Teams
