Had to spend several hours around the house today, but it was an unusually good day in Silver Spring. Between 10-11am, saw approx. 130 Broad-winged hawks (largest kettle was ~80 birds), 2 red-tailed hawks, and 1 Cooper's hawk. CH had a fun time bombing on a lone BW for awhile! Meanwhile, an Ovenbird spent at least 6 hours foraging in the wilder parts of my property, along with a female Rose-breasted grosbeak, Red-eyed vireo, and a Brown thrasher. All the usuals were in big numbers today, too. 2 Hairy woodpeckers looked unusually crisp.
