Subject: Re: [MDBirding] CBF FB page: relocated the SABINE'S GULL in Baltimore County

This sighting was posted on the Virginia birding list on September 8, and refers to a sighting on September 6. Phil Davis alluded to it during the first day that the Maryland Sabine's Gull was present.

Here are the particulars of the sighting:

"Subject: Possible Sabine's Gull near Mt. Crawford, VA (Shenandoah Valley Sept. 6, 2012
Date: Sat Sep 8 2012 9:12 am
From: portlock AT bealenet.com

An adult Sabine's Gull was seen at the North River Wastewater Treatment Plant Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 from 1-3pm. It apparently left the facility later that afternoon and was not found again on September 7. It was seen by 11 individuals, all of whom did not have binoculars but did get relatively close looks (50'). Photographs were obtained that, while of poor quality because of the lack of a telephoto lens, did capture the distinctive black and white wing markings when observed from above, flying, as well as showing the bird resting on water of the secondary settling lagoon. [...] As the bird appeared healthy and flying, and was solitary, birders should be on the lookout for this smallish, beautiful, gull-like tern in the Shenandoah Valley. I apologize for the late post, but have been unavailable to send before now.

Bill Portlock."
Additional observers were listed. Mt. Crawford is town between Harrisonburg and Staunton, Virginia.
