*YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD � 1 **East side of south cell perching atop
tall grass or weeds. In flock of over 100 Red-winged Blackbirds with
some starlings and cowbirds. First seen facing us at about 50' or
less. Head and chest bright yellow, dusky on the crown. Bill pointed
and black; lores black. Remainder of body black with small amount of
white visible on the wing. In flight at 50-100' a large white patch
was visible on the center of the leading edge of the wing making the
bird easy to pick out in the flock. Size was slightly longer and more
robust than the Red-wings. Watched for about five minutes at ~1:30 PM.
Last record on island was on September 17, 2005.
