After a morning photographing 7 warbler species including a beautiful Cape May at Occoquan National Wildlife Refuge this morning, I wasnt expecting too much excitement from a short walk upstream of Rileys Lock at 4:30 pm. Instead I added 5 more warblers for the day:
northern parula
blackpoll warbler
black-throated green warbler
chestnut-sided warbler
blackburnian warbler
also several hermit thrush were downstream of the lock and a lingering green heron on Seneca Creek. I saw an immature black-crowned night heron upstream of the lock on the Potomac River yesterday.
