Governor's Bridge is close to Bowie and has very active recently with migrants. This has been a pretty good autumn for such rarities as Connecticut Warbler, for example.

Subject: [MDBirding] Visiting Bowie, MD from England

I live in England, but I've been in MD with my wife visiting her family about twice a year since 2007. They live in Bowie, in PG County.

I'd be grateful for the inside track on what birds should be around fairly locally during our next trip (September 28th - October 16th). It will be my first proper fall trip, so I'm excited to see some migrants. I'm a relatively experienced birder in the UK but of course with just short trips to the US, there's a lot of common North American species I've yet to see, especially amongst warblers and shorebirds. Our last two trips we've made it out to Blackwater which was just great, otherwise our regular spots for quick birding fixes are the Patuxent National Refuge (the visitor centre is really close to my in-laws place) Lake Artimesia in College Park, and the stretch of the Patuxent River Park nr. Croom. I'm sure there are easily reached hotspots I don't know about yet so please do fill me in!

Thanks, and good birding to all. :) Chris
