Naturalist Society. This report was completed Tuesday, September 25,
at 1:00 PM.

Top birds this week are CINNAMON TEAL in DE, possible MAGNIFICENT
HUMMINGBIRD in MD, FORK-TAILED FLYCATCHER in MD, LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE in
VA and BICKNELL'S THRUSH in MD.

Other birds of interest include GREAT CORMORANT, BROAD-WINGED HAWK,
falcons, AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, HUDSONIAN GODWIT, BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER, BLACK TERN, RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, OLIVE-SIDED and
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER, PHILADELPHIA VIREO, RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH,
warblers, sparrows, DICKCISSEL, ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK, PURPLE FINCH
and RED CROSSBILL.

A CINNAMON TEAL was at Bear Swamp, Bombay Hook NWR, DE this week.

A large hummingbird, possibly a MAGNIFICENT HUMMINGBIRD, was seen
several times on September 19 at Robert E. Lee Park, Lakeside Drive,
Baltimore Co MD.

A FORK-TAILED FLYCATCHER flew across Rte. 32 about � miles east of
Rte. 198, Anne Arundel Co, MD on September 19.

A LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE was along Rte. 84 west of Mill Gap, Highland Co,
VA on September 24.

A BICKNELL'S THRUSH was at Turkey Point in Elk Neck SP, Cecil Co, MD
on September 20.

A GREAT CORMORANT flew toward the Bay Bridge, seen from Sandy Point
SP, Anne Arundel Co, MD on September 23.

An AMERICAN BITTERN was at Oxbow Lake, Anne Arundel Co, MD on
September 25.

Hawk migration is winding down, but many BROAD-WINGED HAWKS were
reported, mostly from the mountain hawk watches. The high count was
5193 BROAD-WINGED HAWKS counted at Harvey's Knob, Roanoke VA on
September 19. The season total of BROAD-WINGED HAWKS at Harvey's Knob
was 13,312 as of September 24 and the season total at the Rockfish Gap
hawk watch was 12,317 as of September 24.

A MERLIN was perched on a snag near the Somerset County Board of
Education, Somerset Co, MD on September 19. A MERLIN and a PEREGRINE
FALCON were at the Swan Creek dredge containment facility, Anne
Arundel Co, MD on September 21. A MERLIN was at the first impoundment
upstream of Pennyfield Lock, Montgomery Co, MD on September 24. A
hatch-year PEREGRINE FALCON was perched on the US 50 bridge in
Cambridge, Dorchester Co, MD on September 19. A PEREGRINE FALCON was
at Dyke Marsh, Fairfax Co, VA on September 23.

AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS plus a HUDSONIAN GODWIT and a BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER were at Swan Creek dredge containment facility, Anne Arundel
Co, MD on September 18. The PLOVERS and the GODWIT were seen again on
September 19; just one AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER remained by September
21. Four AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS were at the Hughes Road Polo fields,
Montgomery Co, MD on September 19. Up to 50 AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVERS
along with a BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER were in a plowed field near
Dover, DE along the South Little Creek Road.

A juvenile BLACK TERN flew over Schoolhouse Pond, Prince George's Co,
MD on September 21.

Six RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were at Shenandoah River SP, Warren Co, VA
on September 23.

OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERS, YELLOW-BREASTED VIREOS and PHILADELPHIA
VIREOS were thinly distributed throughout the reporting area all week.
Numbers of RED-BREASTED NUTHATCHES were seen throughout the viewing
area all week.

Many species of warblers were seen throughout the reporting area. An
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was at Blue Ridge Center, Loudoun Co, VA on
September 22. Of special note were sightings of CONNECTICUT WARBLERS
including Rock Creek Park, DC on September 19, 24 and 25; Southwest
Area Park, Baltimore Co, MD, Adkins Arboretum, Caroline Co, MD and
Turkey Point, Cecil Co, MD on September 20; Southwest Area Park again
on September 21; Adkins Arboretum again on September 23; Conway
Robinson State Forest, Prince William Co, VA on September 23; and a
private property in Rappahannock Co, VA on September 24. A probable
MOURNING WARBLER was at Wheaton Regional Park, Montgomery Co, MD on
September 20. An immature male MOURNING WARBLER was at Amelia WMA,
Amelia Co, VA on September 23. Another MOURNING WARBLER was at
Leesylvania SP, Prince William Co, VA also on September 23.

CLAY-COLORED SPARROWS were reported from several venues including:
Shell Road at Assateague Island National Seashore, Worcester Co, MD on
September 21; Swan Harbor Farm Park, Harford Co, MD on September 22;
Point Lookout SP, St. Mary's Co, MD on September 22 and Sunset Park,
Ocean City, Worcester Co, MD on September 24. A trip to Western
Regional Park, Howard Co, MD on September 23 produced six sparrow
species including two GRASSHOPPER SPARROWS and one LINCOLN'S SPARROW.
A trip to the Howard Conservancy, Howard Co, MD on September 24 and 25
produced seven species of sparrow including GRASSHOPPER, LINCOLN's and
SWAMP SPARROWS.

A DICKCISSEL paid a visit to a yard in Norfolk, VA on September 23.
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS and PURPLE FINCHES were seen in the region
during the week.

A flock of RED CROSSBILLS flew over the Odenton area, Anne Arundel Co,
MD on September 24.
