Also Yellowthroats have throat yellowest, lower breast and belly whitish or grayish, with a tinge of yellow, undertails coverts yellow. Size, proportions, posture, behavior all very different from COWA but sometimes a real skulker will challenge. Probably more apt to be confused with HY Mourning which is closer is size if not proportions. Often but not always the YT will call and identify itself!

At this time of year the question always comes up - are some of these actually look-alike Yellow-throats, which now have a certain amount of eye-ring or spectacles? I think not many, but I've noticed a good field mark not mentioned in the field guides, which clearly separates them (tho' not Connecticut from Mourning), so I'll offer it here - black tips on the primaries. The attached photo, from Adkins Arboretum, clearly shows this feature. I, at least, find this useful, especially when the face is not clearly visible.
