Jim brings up an excellent point, and in hindsight, this should have been my first move.

I, like most everyone these days, keep my mobile phone locked. So in the process of trying to open/unlock the phone (putting in my pin), open the photo app, to then begin to capture, it wasted far too much time this AM as the bird flew overhead. (I have a great photo of the ground though, adding further proof that it is hard to switch an iPhone from photo to video capture.)

Perhaps choosing to open the 'Voice Record / Memo' app would have been the better call.

That said, I find that the iPhone's mic captures very impressive audio quality, while at the same time... it is really easy to quickly send out the sample for experts to review / verify. I wanted to have my very own spectrograph (that is the correct term, right?).
