I hope everyone got out today (Sunday, October 7) to enjoy the fallout between rain showers. I did the morning shift at Governor Bridge Natural Area. Highlights included 10 species of warblers including TWO CONNECTICUT Warblers, 6 Snipes, Sapsucker, 30+ kinglets, a Scarlet Tanager, 2 Rusty Blackbirds and 5 Purple Finches, including one adult male.
Since the birds were still active when I left, I decided to try the early afternoon shift at Milltown Landing. Except for the lack of Kingbirds, I was not disappointed. There I found 12 species of warbler bringing the day's total to 14. An Ovenbird and a Chat were the least expected. The six species of sparrows were highlighted by 3 early White-crowneds and a late Grasshopper.
