During my lunchtime walk at Northampton Lake in Largo, I encountered two flocks of migrants, the second of which included a Blue-winged Warbler. Needless to say, I was shocked to see this little guy so late in the season, not to mention at a small suburban lake with so little "good" habitat. There's only a handful of October records in eBird, and it beats my personal late date by twenty days! If you add in the other eight species of warblers (including two Wilson's Warblers), and a Lincoln's Sparrow, it's easily my most exciting walk at the lake.
Earlier this morning, at the University of Maryland, there was a single tree that held 10 Ruby-crowned Kinglets, 2 Golden-crowned Kinglets, a Black-throated Green Warbler, and a Northern Parula. There definitely seems to be a ton of birds around right now!
