Subject: [MDBirding] Blue Mash: Conn, O/C Warblers 10/8

I spent some time birding at Blue Mash around mid-day today.

The highlights came in a mixed species flock which I picked up along the fence line near the gate into the old landfill and which I followed back to the road leading back to the entrance to Blue Mash. When I first got on them I fairly quickly found an Orange-crowned Warbler in with a group of kinglets (both species), and Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers. I had good views of it to rule out Tennessee. By the time I reconnected with the flock they had started scolding something and all sorts of birds popped out including Red-eyed Vireo, Wilson's and Nashville's Warblers and an immature Connecticut which hung around for a short while before dropping to the ground in some undergrowth and disappearing. I also came across Black-throated -Blue and -Green in the flock. I found a second Nashville's slightly later on in a different part of the property, consorting with Song Sparrows and Palm Warblers. Common Yellowthroats brought the warbler species
total to 9. No Lincoln's sparrows though.

Good birding
