Hi Everybody:
Not sure if my response to Mark Johnson's post went through about Perryman Park in Harford County. I was there at first daylight for just over an hour and saw a LINCOLN'S SPARROW, 2 imm. WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS and also heard 2 different WINTER WRENS singing. I missed the other passerines that he reportd but did not walk any of the adjacent trails. I also had a total of 5 PALM WARBLERS (4 Eastern and 1 Western)...the first of many that I would see throughout the day.
My next stop was at Swan Harbor Farm Park where I birded only the newer impoundments. Highlights here: 1 Blue-winged Teal, 3 Ruby-crowned and 1 Golden-crowned Kinglets, 3 western and 5 eastern PALM WARBLERS, 1 LINCOLN'S SPARROW, 3 imm. White-crowned Sparrows and 4 PINE SISKINS. The siskins were initially seen feeding in the vegetation about 30 feet from me and then all took off at once and flew towards the entrance road and gave a few flight calls as they ascended.
I then entered into CECIL County...my first stop was at Bethel MHA. I was there for about 1 1/4 hours starting just after 11AM. There was a sizable loose flock of Swallows flying over the water the entire time I was there...mostly Trees (90), Also N. Rough-wings (35) and 2 Barn. I walked the dike observing the water but also found the bank on my left to be fairly birdy as well. There were 35 Ruddy Ducks on the water, 18 Green-wiinged Teal at the far end and the only shorebird I saw was a Lesser Yellowleg. In the vegetation below the bank I saw more PALM WARBLERS (8 Eastern & 4 Western), 1 LINCOLN'S SPARROW, 1 brown PURPLE FINCH. On my return walk back to the car I hit a nice flock of passerines at the edge of the vegetation past the impoundment. Warblers included a Blackthroated Green and a very cooperative male WILSON'S providing me with great looks at his black cap.
I spent some time at the Chessland Park Soccer Complex. Not much new for the day but I did have more PALM Warblers and one more Lincoln's Sparrow.
