Subject: Poplar Island Sightings from October 8, 2012

This report is submitted on behalf of Jan Reese of Talbot County, who
continues to periodically survey the flora and fauna of the Paul Sarbanes
Ecosystem Restoration Project at Poplar Island.

The summary of bird observations that follows was taken by permission
from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and MD Port Administration, October
2012, Fauna Monitoring Report for the Paul S. Sarbanes Ecosystem Restoration
Project at Poplar Island.

Favorable south transient conditions during the past two weeks, plus
on-going site work may have enabled transient departure while discouraging
or driving away many birds from the area as indicated by the decrease in
shorebirds and surface-feeding waterfowl. Conversely, diving Ruddy Ducks
increased, predators retain an obvious presence, and the herbaceous
vegetation continues to harbor songbirds.

Although Pelicans were not seen at the project sit, they could b e seen at
bait-fish feeding-frenzies of Laughing Gulls of the Bay Hundred Peninsula
east of the island.
