Subject: [MDBirding] Winter finches arrive in Calvert Co

Huntingtown renewed membership in the winter finch club today. While looking at a surprise (for us) Blue-headed Vireo (yard bird # 127), and a welcome Magnolia, we at last heard our FOY Red-br Nuthatch. Could siskins be far behind? No - at the thistle feeder was a single Pine Siskin, quickly morphing into 2,3,4,5 siskins before our eyes. Soon after, aPurple Finch ("purple"), also FOY,arrived at another feeder. Nor did the excitement stop there - Black-thr Green, Black & White, and even Nashville Warblers also showed up thru the day. I feel like showing the full list of 30:

Canda Goose 30
Turkey Vulture 2
Black Vulture 5
Red-sh Hawk
Mourning Dove 2
Re-belly Wpkr
Downy W'pkr
E Phoebe
BLUE-HEADED VIREO
Am Crow 50
Blue Jay 2
C Chickd 6
T Titmouse 7
Car Wren
White-br N'ch
Red-br N'ch
Ruby-cr Klt
E Bluebird
Magnolia W
Myrtle W 5
Bl-thr Green W
NASHVILLE W
Black & W W
N Cardinal (f w/ dependent y)
E Towhee
Chipping Sp
Purple Finch
House Finch
A Goldfinch
Pine Siskin 5

With blue heads, yellow rumps, and red breasts, what a colorful day - and a welcome contrast to y'day eve's funereal "scavenge" (?) of no less than 61 vultures repeatedly cicling the house, in what I hope was not a Sign.
