Subject: [MDBirding] White-crowned Sparrow and Rusty Blackbirds, Hughes Hollow, Mont. Co., 10/17

I led a nice group of folks from The Nature Conservancy on a bird walk at Hughes Hollow in the McKee-Beshers Wildlife Management Area this morning. It started out pretty foggy. Duck hunters had been out, but were returning to their vehicles as we started our walk. They reported no success in their efforts, and we didnt see any waterfowl (heard two distant Canada Goose).

Highlights were at least ten Rusty Blackbirds (lots of blackbirds flying around, and I think there were probably more than ten Rustys) and an immature White-crowned Sparrow. I heard a Red-breasted Nuthatch as well. There were lots of Song Sparrows (my estimate of 20 is probably low), some White-throated, one Field, and one Swamp and both Kinglet species. The complete list from my eBird report is below.

Comments: Bird walk for The Nature Conservancy members. Fog over the area initially. Waterfowl hunters had been present before our walk; they were just walking out as we started our walk.
