We have been crazy with sparrows here in Howard....I did another big sparrow search last Thursday and again hit 10 species with hundreds of birds. Picked up Vesper in a couple places but no Nelsons. Still had two lingering Grasshoppers (late!) . White-Crowns have really moved in and Lincolns were still hanging on with 5.

This week should still be strong but then they should start to taper a bit. The wintering species should climb in numbers. There is still a great potential for rare sparrows even into November. (Look for Harris!)

Subject: [MDBirding] Wilson's Warbler

Hi Everyone,

I had an unexpected hatch year female Wilson's Warbler in scrub at Poplar Point (Anacostia Park) in Washington DC this afternoon. It was joined by a imm. female Common Yellowthroat and a male House Finch - all low in a brilliantly red sumac bush. Lots of sparrows around in the weedy fields at Poplar Point - probably some great rarities hiding and inaccessible (at least today). In addition to large numbers of Song Sparrows, I had some Swamp, Field and White-throatded and White-crowned Sparrows.

I wish Bonnie could come down here one day and work her Sparrow Magic to help find some real goodies!
