Subject: [MDBirding] Dickcissel-- Eastern Neck

Hi All,

Yesterday my mother and I were down in Chestertown for the Washington College open house. After we were done we went to Eastern Neck to do a bit of birding before the sun went down. We had some good birds including a flyover COMMON LOON and a dozen or so YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS. The best bird, appeared shortly after we got out of the car and stepped onto the boardwalk at Tubby Cove. A slim House Sparrow-like bird popped up along with some SWAMP SPARROWS. When it turned around it revealed itself as an elegant female DICKCISSEL! She remained perched up for a few moments, and then dropped back into the vegetation and did not reappear.

Good Birding,

Mike H.
