Benjamin,

Storms like this can have a very large impact on the birds of the region.
For those that want to ride the storm out along the coast, if it is a
hurricane it can bring in birds from far off shore waters. It's very likely
that Jaegers and terns could be brought to the inlet and bay waters along
the shore even if it's "only" a nor'easter. It's a bit too late in the
season to bring storm-petrels and shearwaters as storms like this in late
summer can.

This can also knock down migrating late shorebirds and waterfowl into ponds
and storm puddles while they ride out the worst of the weather event. To
the west, if heavy snows fall in the mountains north of us, an influx of
migrating sparrows and finches could result.

And yes, it's also something that people should keep an eye on fire their
safety and to possibly take action to protect their property.
