Subject: [MDBirding] Brant on National Mall

Hi Everyone,

I headed down to Hains Point to see if I could relocate the Brant - associating with Canada Geese Wallace K. found earlier in the morning. For as much as I searched - nothing. No flocks of Geese except a small group near the Jefferson Memorial. Constitution Gardens had VERY FEW birds, but made up for what it did have: 1 Coot, 2 Green-winged Teal, 2 American Wigeon, 2 mallard, and 8 Northern Shoveler.

As I was leaving I went to leave, I biked past the Washington Monument were a lone male Mallard was eating grass. When I got closer to the mallard, I realized it wasn't a dark mallard, but a Brant!!!! I took a number of photos with my sorta "smart" phone, and hope to upload them later for the eBird list.

The exact location just across 17th Street and the WWII monument grazing on the lawn that leads to the Washington Monument. Last seen at 2:45 pm.

Cheers!
