MD Birders, Despite ongoing signs of a winter finch invasion, MD birders observed only 2 additional species in October to raise the 2012 cummulative tally to 352. This represents the second lowest number so far this year (behind July) and is relatively slow compared to the 7 additional species added in October of both 2010 and 2011. Nonetheless, we observed a respectable 263 species in the month of October which was only 3 species shy of migrant heavy September.
With the strong potential for vagrants in November, we have a good shot at exceeding the 357 species total from 2011. MD birders have added 5 species to the cummulative list during November of the last 2 years with another 2-3 species added in December. The juvenile black-tailed gull at Ft. Armistead Park found by Keith Costley already has us off to a great start to November!
The entire MD Comprehensive List can be found on Bill Hubick's website: http://www.billhubick.com/docs/MD_Comp_List_2012.pdf. As usual, please let me know if I am missing any records or if there are any errors. If you observed a sensative species, please let me know and I'll only include the location down the county level.
I'll post some additional information on the MD Comp. List on the Maryland Birding Facebook page later today.
Cheers, Dave
