Sorry for the delay in reporting what jennifer Kawar and I saw yesterday morning. At Riley's Lock there were 2 pied-Billed Grebes, about 10 Buffleheads (mostly males), Green Teals & Gadwalls. On land there were numerous Kinglets, Yellow-Rumped & the usual suspects. After meeting Donna Quinn & her companion (Gerco) from Loudoun and hearing that they found Rusty Blackbirds, a late Blue-gray Gnatcatcher and a Red-Brested Nuthatch between Violette's and Riley's Locks we started walking towards Violette's. About a third of the way down we met again with them. Gerco showed us 3 Palm Warblers. A minute later Donna pointed to a small bird foraging in dead leaves in the Canal bed. When it flew up we all 3 had good views (and documentation-quality photos) of a nice-looking Northern Parula! We had to leave then, regretfully. Who knows what else was there?
happy birding
