Benjamin: I'd be glad to post the photos either as an attachment here, or on our birding blog, www.birdcouple.com, as soon as possible....

Are the images of the gull in question publicly posted anywhere? I was there on Saturday and this one gull keeps getting me excited thinking Franklin's. I'd love to see if its the same one that caused the confusion.

I can't speak for everyone but I'll gladly take the occasional oops, it's a small price to pay for quick notice of all the amazing birds I've been able to see lately.

Hi Warren and Lisa,

Thanks very much for this post. Every active birder makes an id error now and then. It's a universal hazard of our fantastic hobby/pastime/passion/obsession.

I'd like to highlight another lesson from this. Warren (or Lisa?) took excellent photos of the bird in question, allowing review after the fact. Of course it's not always possible to get a photo--but if you have the capability, please go for it! You'll learn more about birds and you'll make a lasting contribution to bird study.

Have fun,

Hi all. Apologies for the late post. After closer viewing of my photographs from Saturday at Conowingo Dam and conferring with Jim Stasz and Kevin Graff, Lisa and I are withdrawing our report of a Franklin's Gull. It was merely an exceptionally good looking Laughing Gull!!
