Subject: [MDBirding] suddenly siskins!

Hi all --

This morning brought in an influx of Goldfinches and then, suddenly, there were our FOS Pine Siskins as well! Hanging on the thistle feeders, feeding on the ground, awaiting their turn in the trees -- at least a dozen and (knowing siskins) probably many more. Then, just as suddenly, they were gone...but hanging out nearby as I heard their squeals from a neighbor's Virginia Pine.

Unfortunately no sign of yesterday's fly-through Red Crossbills but we are hopeful. Our neighborhood has lots of mature spruces, pines and hemlocks -- all sporting cones -- so keeping eyes and ears open.

p.s. the Cooper's Hawk ended up eating about half the rabbit and was unable to carry the remainder away (it tried) -- overnight something took the rest of the carcass, probably our neighborhood fox.
