Subject: [MDBirding] Gunners Lake and Black Hill RP, Mont Co

Quick check today of Gunners Lake off Wisteria Dr in Germantown. Lake held
Ring-necked (40+), Ruddy Ducks (18), Hooded Merganser (7), Pied-billed
Grebe (15), couple coots and Ring-bill Gulls as well as Canada Geese and
Mallards. An easy lake to check and 'scope from Wisteria Dr.

Most of waterfowl action at Black Hill RP was in the cove near South end of
Rte 121 bridge. Mostly a mix of Bufflehead and Ruddy Duck with a few coots
mixed in. Also, there was a Muscovy Duck mixed in with the Buffleheads and
Ruddys that would have been a dead ringer for the wild type as depicted in
Sibley if it were not for a muted pink bill (no white wing patch either). I
am pretty familiar with the domestic cast of characters at Little Seneca
Lake but have not seen this particular duck before. Checked the feeders at
visitor center but not much going on. Nice day brought out a lot folks that
were hanging around the Visitor center, which in turn disturbed the birds.
Did not have time to check the 10 mile crk arm of the lake.
