Today was my first visit to Ft McHenry--very nice place! I was there walking around the point, and going down to the edge to peer left and right at the rocks below the seawall, for an hour, and getting discouraged, when a snow bunting materialized about 10 feet away from me on the wall! Where were they before??? So, if they don't show at first, don't give up I guess is the message. Well worth the effort--last time I saw snow buntings was a long time ago on a cold Feb. day at Cape Henlopen and that flock was skittering ahead of us like so many snowflakes. Very nice to have them so close. I got pictures of the one on the wall and the other which was preening down on the rocks.

Other nice birds were on the sidewalk just down from the Visitors Center--a brown creeper seen twice, and a hermit thrush seen on the way out, plus the buffleheads (females) fairly close to shore. I confess to not even trying with the gulls today, tho did notice a greater black backed on the water aways out.
