I visited Irvine Nature Center, Baltimore County, today 9:30-12:00 with Dave Harley. There were many sparrows to sort through: Song (120+), Junco (18), White-throated (10), Chipping (8), Swamp (7), Fox (3), and Towhee (1). The most interesting bird was a very red Song Sparrow with bright red tail, red and gray back, a few reddish breast stripes and a prominent central spot (also red). It looked approx. like a red Fox Sparrow from the rear (though smaller), but in front was clearly a Song Sparrow. I assume it was one of the Southwestern subspecies.
