I'd love to know some spots close to Montgomery county, of course, but I wouldn't mind knowing ones further away, too, and I suspect there are a lot of birders who would love knowing some likely places about now, with all the tantalizing sightings going on. I'd love to see a crossbill before this invasion year is over!

Hi Gail, and all;
The WW crosbills a few years back (2 years?) in Howard County, at least the ones at Centennial Lake park, were in Norway Spruce, as I recall. I have several here in my front yard with some cones, so will be keeping an eye out. The Red Crossbills back along Liberty Reservoir many years ago, were as Gail says in pines, but I don't think they were white pines, but unsure as to species there. It looks like they are not too picky as to species, so long as there are cones with a good seed crop. And they have come all this way, so I think wouldn't be particularly fussy.
