Here is something which might be helpful to people not already familiar with the four-letter banding codes. Usually, not always, but in a large percentage of cases, the first two letters are the first two letters of the bird's first name and the second two are the first two letters of the bird's second name.

WEKI is WEstern KIngbird. EAKI is EAstern KIngbird. Not all KIs are kingbirds. BEKI is Belted KIngfisher.

There are some names which are so similar that different rules apply, as with the Carolina, Cactus, and Canyon Wrens, which are CARW, CACW, and CANW.

This system requires one to know the bird's "full" name, as in Northern Mockingbird (NOMO), American Robin (AMRO), and Gray Catbird (GRCA).

As Mark said, it's easy to find these codes online, but a lot of the time they're not difficult to figure out.

But please, please, please take a moment to type the whole name of the bird in the body of your email. There are a lot of us who don't know what a "WEKI" is.

Pretty sure "OC" is Ocean City but .... again, please bear in mind that there are people looking at these posts that are not familiar with the area and have no idea what "OC" means or where it is. Maryland is a wonderfully large, geographically diverse state. Not everyone subscribed to MDBirding is from Maryland, not even necessarily from a nearby state.
