We should remember that there are different levels of experience in the birding community and if we use codes that are not universally known or that require more work to decipher such as looking them up, then we are putting some at a disadvantage. Not everyone is active enough to have committed the codes to memory. The nice thing about the birding community is that we generally help each other out - so why stop here? It's not really much more work to type a few more letters such as W. Kingbird than WEKI in the subject line. That took me less than 5 extra seconds just now. The entire name is generally not required but the codes give too little information for many birders, so a compromise is nice.
