Subject: [MDBirding] Rarity Roundup, 11/10: Southeast Territory

My brother Mike and I covered the Southeast territory for the
consecutive fourth year. By and large, it was a birdy day with perfect
weather. Here are some of our highlights:

George Island Landing and Road:
Dowitcher sp. - 13 - silent flyovers. Presumed Long-billeds.
Pine Warbler - 1 - feeding in the evergreens near the last house on the
left, which looks like an excellent spot for late warblers in general.
Snow Goose - 26 - Only ones reported for the Roundup
Ross's Goose - 1 - Flying north with the group of Snow Geese
Indigo Bunting - 1 - http://www.flickr.com/photos/35144142@N04/8183688918/
Purple Finch - 1

Big Mill Rd:
Vesper Sparrow - 1 - With Savannah Sparrows near a small goat farm.

Steel Pond Rd:
Nuthatch trifecta

The following day, Sunday, was spent looking for winter finches on
Assateague and chasing Mikey's Western Kingbird at the Ocean City
Airport. Afterward, Mikey Lutmering, Matt Hafner, Mike Ostrowski and I
went to the Ocean City Inlet. Highlights there were three Harlequin
Ducks, a Saltmarsh Sparrow (had been hanging out on the north jetty for
a couple days), and an impressive Northern Gannet show (500+). We also
watched as a Merlin gave chase to a Sanderling out over the ocean!
