Naturalist Society. This report was completed Tuesday, November 20, at
10:40 AM.

Top birds this week are WESTERN GREBE* in MD, ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD* in
DE, WESTERN TANAGER* in VA.

Other birds of interest include waterfowl, BROWN PELICAN, raptors,
SANDHILL CRANE, LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, WHITE-WINGED DOVE,
SHORT-EARED OWL, hummingbirds, WESTERN KINGBIRD, LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE,
CAVE SWALLOW, EVENING GROSBEAK, SNOW BUNTING, ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER,
AMERICAN TREE SPARROW, RED CROSSBILL, WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL and
COMMON REDPOLL.

A WESTERN GREBE* was at the Castaways Campground, Worcester Co., MD on
November 19 and 20.

An ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD* is visiting a feeder at a home in Newark, DE.
It was banded on November 15, identified as a hatch-year female
ANNA'S. This is a first state record.

A male WESTERN TANAGER* spent the afternoon zipping to and from
feeders at a home in Williamsburg, VA on November 13, reported again
on November 17.

Migrating TUNDRA SWANS were reported from many sites in the area
during the week. An Atlantic BRANT was seen off Fleming Park,
Baltimore Co., MD on November 19. Three COMMON EIDERS were flying
north of the Ocean City Inlet, Worcester Co., MD on November 18.

On November 15, BROWN PELICANS were seen at the mouth of the Chester
River, Kent Co., MD and also in Anne Arundel Co., MD and perched on
the Queen Anne's Co., MD side of the Bay Bridge. Another two BROWN
PELICANS were sighted from Eastern Neck NWR, Dent Co., MD in Kent and
Queen Anne's Co. waters on November 18.


A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen at the Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch, near
Waynesboro, VA on November 14. More GOLDEN EAGLES were reported at the
Cape Henlopen Hawk Watch, Sussex Co., DE on November 15 and 16. One
more was at the Snickers Gap Hawk Watch, Loudoun Co, VA on November
17. A GOLDEN EAGLE was at Soldier's Delight Natural Area, Baltimore
Co., MD on November 18. A ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was seen at the Turkey
Point Hawk Watch, Cecil Co., MD on November 19.

SANDHILL CRANES were seen on November 14 flying over downtown
Fredericksburg, VA.

A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was at the Bladensburg Waterfront Park,
Prince George's Co., MD on November 13.

A WHITE-WINGED DOVE was between Charles St. and Pine St. in West Ocean
City, Worcester Co, MD on November 15.

Two SHORT-EARED OWLS flew slowly and high over a field to the south of
Harrison Road, Fauquier Co., VA on November 17.

Selasphorus species hummingbirds were reported from a number of
locations including: Green Spring Gardens, Alexandria, VA on November
14 and 17; a feeder near Havre de Grace, Harford Co, MD which was
banded on November 15 and identified as a hatch-year male RUFOUS
HUMMINGBIRD. The banders continued their journey to Joppa, Harford Co,
MD and banded another Hummingbird identified as a first-winter female
RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD. The Hummingbird at a feeder on Tilghman Island,
Talbot Co, MD was identified as a CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD on November 16
and continued to be seen with a report from November 17.

A WESTERN KINGBIRD, previously reported on the west side of the Ocean
City Airport, Worcester Co, MD, along Rte. 611 was seen again on
November 14, 16 and 18.

The LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE at the Blandy Experimental Farm, Clarke Co, VA
continued to be seen with a report from November 17.

CAVE SWALLOWS continued to be spotted in the area with a report from
Turkey Point in Elk SP, Cecil Co., MD on November 17, 18 and 19.

An EVENING GROSBEAK was at Point Lookout SP, St. Mary's Co., MD on
November 18. Another EVENING GROSBEAK was at a home in Harford Co., MD
on November 17. Another EVENING GROSBEAK was in New Germany SP,
Garrett Co., MD on November 19.

SNOW BUNTINGS continued to be seen in the area including: Fort
McHenry, Baltimore, MD throughout the week; Thomas Point SP, Anne
Arundel Co, MD on November 13 and 15; Forest Hill, Harford Co, MD on
November 14; Poplar Island, Talbot Co., MD on November 16; Fulton
Pond, Howard Co., MD on November 17 and Hart-Miller Island, Baltimore
Co., MD on November 19.

An ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER was at Kinder Farm Park, Anne Arundel Co.,
MD on November 17 and 18.

AMERICAN TREE SPARROWS were seen at Swan Creek dredge containment
facility, Anne Arundel Co, MD on November 16 and at the New Windsor
wetlands, Carroll Co., MD on November 17.

RED CROSSBILLS were found at several locations including: Kiptopeke
SP, Northampton Co, VA on November 17 and Point Lookout SP, St. Mary's
Co., MD on November 18. WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS also appeared in
several spots including; Ellicott City, Howard Co, MD on November 14;
Governor Bridge Natural Area, Prince Georges Co, MD on November 14 and
17; Druid Hill Cemetery, Pikesville, Baltimore Co., MD on November 16;
Brantwood Golf Course, Cecil Co., MD on November 17; Blandy
Experimental Farm, Clarke Co., VA on November 17; Bladensburg
Waterfront Park, Prince George's Co., MD on November 19; Twin Shields
Golf Course, Calvert Co., MD on November 19 and New Germany SP,
Garrett Co., MD on November 19. Large numbers of CROSSBILLS were seen
at the Cape Henlopen Hawk Watch, Sussex Co., DE including 95 RED
CROSSBILLS on November 16 and 30 WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS on November
14.

On November 19, eight species of finch were seen at Kiptopeke SP,
Northampton Co., VA including RED CROSSBILL, WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILL,
COMMON REDPOLL and EVENING GROSBEAK.

On November 17 and 18, a COMMON REDPOLL was at Blandy Experimental
Farm, Clarke Co., VA. Another COMMON REDPOLL was on Assateague Island,
Worcester Co., MD also on November 17. A COMMON REDPOLL is visiting
feeders in Rumbley, Somerset Co., MD, seen on November 19.
