Subject: [MDBirding] banded COOPER'S HAWK, West Laurel

Just had a juvenile COOPER'S HAWK terrorize birds at our feeders in West
Laurel, PG County. There was a small metal band on its left leg (tarsus).
I tried to get the scope on it, but it chased after a songbird before I
could focus on the band.

Happy to see our first YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER (male) for the FeederWatch
season, drilling holes in our viburnum. Interestingly, the red crown was
very splotched with white. In fact, the bird almost looked like it had
had a bad encounter with a bag of flour. First-year bird?

Otherwise nothing unusual to report. No sign of the Pine Siskins of a few
weekends ago.
