Following on from Keith's sighting, I went down to look for crossbills this afternoon. About ten minutes after I arrived, I heard some high-pitched twittering overhead and saw a tight flock of 11-15 birds flying over. I had listened to the calls before going out on the suggestion of Kevin. They were traveling east along the hemlock line on the northern limit of the Cemetary. I did not see them alight, or get a picture. I did note strong white wing marks and strong red coloration of the bodies of some of the birds. I am not sure if my observations will meet the ebird threshold, but time will tell. I cannot think what else they might have been the red coloration and strong white wing marks seem to rule out most othre things. I couldnt rule out Pine Grosbeak, but i doubt that is important. I looked for them for a further hour, but never found them or heard them again. Richard Edden Owings Mills PS Thanks to Tim, who assured me seeing something exciting by not coming along ;-)
