I feel like I have committed the bird list equivalent of dropping meat into an Amzonian tributary to chum for piranhas! My second email said this in part:
"Bill and others,
This is one of those emails I wrote quickly and with a degree of frustration and wish I'd included a big thank you to the volunteer ebird reviewers in their great efforts.
My issue is that the response time seems to be slower than it was up to about 2009 or 10. I realize there are lots of data, but certainly PA also has a lot of sightings to review as well and yet their records were mapped and I received an email from the Central PA bird alert compiler today. The number of high quality digital photos should also help speed up the review process.
Again, I appreciate the hard work of ebird volunteers and others, I just wish there was more communication."
The lesson is, apparently, do not criticise citizen science!! You all can call off the dogs now if you'd like since the point about email being great has been made repeatedly. I will repent in dust and ashes and only send in bird notes from now on which I'd much rather do anyway.
