On Wednesday morning, Nov. 28th, after recording 1 Sharp-shinned hawk and 1 Redtailed hawk, we saw a large bird approaching from the NE (up valley). Even at a long distance we could see that this bird was being harassed by 5 crows as it approached. This perked our interest immediately as we rarely see crows harassing large raptors with such persistence outside of breeding season. Once we put the scope on it there was no doubt we had a juvenile Golden Eagle. This bird was in view for almost 5 minutes as it flew overhead, gained altitude , then continued south. This was only our 3rd Golden Eagle of the season. We will continue the count for the next week or two before ending the 2012 season. Go to hawkcount.org. for details.
