Subject: [MDBirding] Wheaton Regional Park today

Hi all,

Quite cold and heavy frost when we got to WRP (Montgomery Co.) this morning and activity was definitely sluggish. Also not helped by the park staff deciding today was the day to blow all the leaves out of the picnic area, meaning no winter finch with a brain would be flying into the scattered Virginia Pines, sunny or not. However we persevered and managed a modest tally -- ran into Chris Wright who pointed us in the direction of a Hermit Thrush, first for us there this year. Significant decline in most sparrows and finches, but we did see three Fox Sparrows near the white house. By the time we got to Brookside Gardens it was very quiet, nothing new seen.
