The Snow Goose was right at the edge of the main Loch Raven Dam at 3:30 today, surrounded by hundreds of Canada Geese. I did not immediately see the Cackling Goose.
About 4:00 I was walking on Loch Raven Dr. below the dam when waves of Canada Geese started flying south. The Snow Goose was not one of the birds in flight. I looked over the flying birds (several hundred in total) with binocs, searching for the Cackling Goose. Finally, I saw a much smaller goose with a fairly long, slender neck and a very small head. I'm not convinced this was a Cackling Goose. Possibly one of the small races of Canada Goose.
