Apparently Jim and I left too early! We returned around 1:30 and had a single White-winged Crossbill fly towards the parking lot from the west at 1:55. It nearly came overhead, but turned back towards the northwest giving us a decent look.

Not many notable birds while looking for crossbills today, but we did have a perched Merlin at the Bel Air Memorial Gardens. Corner of Moores Mill Rd and 924 in Bel Air.

Good birding!

But near the end of my time there at about 10:15 I was seeing lots of movement in the trees on Dalton Bevard rd and after a few mins a group of 5 finch-looking birds took off from near the top of one tree to the next one. Moved in a got a look in my 12-power binocs and sure enough there was the red finch with the distinctive wingbars. They disappeared after a minute or so but I was happy to see them.
