Heck, we're all looking for stocking stuffers.

You really can't go wrong with any of the Audubon apps created by Green
Mountain Digital, even the ones that aren't specifically aimed at kids (and
at 10, it's a tricky age to buy for anyhow). I find most of them not
sophisticated enough for me, but good at the citizen science/interested
young adult stage. The one they *do* design for kids is called Owl and it
seems pitched just about right for your young one.

And you should get him/her one iPad field guide; for this age group I like
the e-version of the old standard Peterson guide because it doesn't
distract with too much text or give tons of confusing alternate plumages.

At that age, I was eagerly consuming the Peterson guide to bird nests,
which sat still longer than the birds.
