Hi all,
I see from ebird reports that both red and white-winged crossbills continue today at Crest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Howard County. I just wanted to post that yesterday, Victoria Fisher, Bill Hill and I had one perched red crossbill in the thick fog. Victoria was able to get some photos while I got an audio recording of the bird. The perched bird has been confirmed as Type 3. However, while listening to my recording - Matt Young thinks he picked up a calling Type 2 as well. I'm not sure it can be confirmed at this point, but I just wanted to send a reminder for everyone to try and record these guys if possible. Type 3 has been the predominant type this irruption but type 10 and a few type 2's have been noted in our area as well.
best,
Jared Fisher Bethesda, MD
