We started at the Monocacy R. bridge and scanned Lilypons -- many ponds had an ice skim but the one furthest west had about 125 Canada Geese and 9 Green-winged Teal. Driving along Lilypons Rd., just east of Rt. 85 on the north side, the corn stubble field held about 2000 more geese but our attention was taken by several flocks of Horned Larks close to the road. Scanning with a scope revealed 5 LAPLAND LONGSPURS feeding amongst them. Several other small flocks of larks flew over but did not land, and these included three other Lappies giving their dry rattle and "dew" notes. A male Kestrel also flew over. Investigation of various hedgerows and weedy fields in the area yielded about a dozen WHITE-CROWNED SPARROWS, several FOX and a single TREE. We then walked down into Lilypons where among the expected species we had two Wilson's Snipe, 16 Am. Black Duck, a single Rusty Blackbird, and two MARSH WRENS in one of the reed-filled ponds.
