Since many Maryland birders visit the Delaware marshes, I am forwarding (with Anthony Gonzon's permission) the attached DNREC survey. Anthony tells me they are interested in all comments - even those from us Maryland foreigners. :) maryanne dolan elkton, md (just 3 miles from the Delaware border)
"Greetings all
Although I have no birds to report in this post, I wanted to take a moment and ask you check out the Delaware Bayshore Initiative survey posted by DNREC. It is a very short survey, but asks some very important questions. As birders, many of us have visited places like Augustine, Woodland Beach, Little Creek, Ted Harvey, Slaughter Beach, and Milford Neck. These are all great places, but haven't you ever thought "I wish this place had." or "If only there was a viewing platform here" or "If only I had better access to."? DNREC is reaching out to all user groups in the bayshore area, and our opinions as birders, photographers, wildlife watchers and nature enthusiasts do matter! Here is a great opportunity to tell DNREC why the Delaware Bayshore is important to you and to make suggestions about how to improve what it offers. What we say can help guide planning and investment into the Bayshore area for years to come.
If you could check it out, the link to the survey page is http://www.dnrec.delaware.gov/Pages/Delaware-Bayshore.aspx. As long as I have birded in Delaware, I don't recall birders being asked for their opinions in this way or at this scale. This is a big opportunity for the Delaware birding community and our comments and suggestions will help to make the Delaware Bayshore even better as the world-class destination we already know it is! The survey itself takes only a couple of minutes at most.
Thanks and good birding (the Bayshore!),
Ant
