Late yesterday afternoon as I was winding up my counting for the Triadelphia Christmas count checking out a large Robin/Starling roost, I encountered a small party of Black-caps. The characteristic lower throatier call caught my attention. I did observe a white 'hockey stick' extending into the scapulars on one bird, and they responded to my recording.
The robin song was also impressive.
Otherwise, I found Winter Wrens to be abundant, logging 14 for the day. Just about any stop with dense wood, usually with a stream, produced 1-4.
The location was Columbia Park, on Old Columbia Rd. south of Burtonsville. Ball fields, with a large wooded fringe, and a small cattail marsh at the back end.
